Many aspects ofOkinawan culture, including karate, developedin the Ryukyu Kingdom, which flourishedfrom the 1400s to the 1800s.Naha is the capital of Okinawa Prefecture.One of Naha’s most famous sites is ShuriCastle, the royal palace of the RyukyuKingdom. The original castle was probablybuilt in the 14th century. The castle has burneddown and been rebuilt four times. The lastrestoration was in 1992. The buildings havea vivid red color, and they’re decorated withunique carvings. They’re surrounded bybeautiful stone walls and gates. You can visitsome parts of the castle for free.
