I recommendthe Laponian area, a World Heritage Site innorthern Sweden. This area is part of Lapland.Sami, a minority ethnic group of theScandinavian countries and Russia, live inthe Laponian area. Sami people have beenreindeer herders for 5,000 years. Today about10 percent of Sami are engaged in reindeerherding, and herding is still an important partof Sami culture. Herders take their reindeertowards the mountains every summer.Sami are one of the only groups of people inthe world who still move seasonally with theiranimal herds. Some Sami speak the traditionalSami languages. Many wear vividly coloredtraditional clothing called “kolt.”If you go to the Laponia area, you can seemagnificent scenery. Almost all of the areais protected parkland. There are rivers,lakes, waterfalls and glaciers, and in wintereverything is covered in a blanket of snow.
